New
Logo Hits the Mark
More
inclusive design provides a versatile symbol for today's multi-media
communications
The
SHOT Show's venerable symbol of hunter, dog and bull's-eye target, which
has served the show well for four decades, has given way to a new, more
inclusive logo that welcomes and supports all segments of the world's
largest shooting, hunting and outdoor trade show.
The
request for a new logo arose from input provided by NSSF members through
SHOT Show surveys that are conducted each year.
"Times
change and trade shows change, reflecting current buying and selling
trends," said Chris Dolnack, senior vice president of NSSF, which
owns the SHOT Show. "When the SHOT Show began in 1979, hunting was
the dominant activity in our industry and our logo reflected that. Today's
SHOT show requires a strong, clean logo that reminds all attendees, whether
their business is shooting, hunting or law enforcement, that they are
valued. The new SHOT Show logo does this."
During
an 18-month process, hundreds of new logo treatments were considered;
the adopted logo was designed by NSSF's in-house team, winning approval
over the many other submissions, including those from two award-winning
design firms.
"SHOT
Show®" and "Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show" names,
logos and images are trademarks or registered trademarks of the NSSF. The
NSSF has developed trademark branding guidelines to protect its valuable
intellectual property rights in these marks and to strengthen the SHOT
Show brand identity by ensuring that the show’s name, logo and
images are properly and consistently used at all times by authorized
third parties.
Exhibitors
and media registered to attend the 2011 SHOT Show should be on the lookout
for a future announcement about the availability of the new SHOT Show
logo for the purpose of promoting their show participation or for show
news coverage.

Your Comments for Live Chat
Then
join us online on Aug. 11
A
live online chat is scheduled for 2 p.m. E.D.T. on Wednesday, Aug. 11,
at which time questions and other comments will be aired and addressed
regarding the 2011 SHOT Show, to be held Tuesday, Jan. 18, through Friday,
Jan. 21, in Las Vegas. In the meantime, you can send
your questions and/or other comments in advance of the live chat
so they can be considered for inclusion in the session.
An
earlier online chat drew a lot of participation, evoking more questions
and comments regarding the SHOT Show than even the half-hour-longer-than-scheduled
session could cover.
"Participating
in our live, online chats is a great way to get questions answered, suggestions
heard and complaints addressed," said Chris Dolnack, National Shooting
Sports Foundation senior vice president.
On
Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. E.D.T. you can take part in the chat by logging on
to www.nssf.org/shotshowchat.
Improvements
at the SHOT Show Venue Continue
Management
is in 'remodel mode'
Identified
improvements at the Sands Expo and Convention Center are being worked
on to make the 2011 SHOT Show experience even more enjoyable.
"We
are heavily into remodel mode," reported Ashlyn LaPorte, executive
director of event management at the center.
She
offers a rundown of some of the current construction:
"Escalator
pits are being dug in Hall G," LaPorte said. "Six of the small
handicapped restrooms are currently under construction with the marble
on the walls and new tile on the floor. Once they have been completed,
the blockhouses will be taken out of commission one at a time for demolition
and remodeling. The new expansion plates are complete in Hall A
and more than 50 percent done in Hall B."
We
will continue to keep you posted on improvements at the venue.

Fair
Guide Scam Pops Up Again
Legal
counsel says beware of entering into an agreement
SHOT
Show officials are again reminding exhibitors and attendees to treat
solicitations from trade-directory publishers, especially Fair Guide
and Expo-Guide, with extreme caution. By signing and returning their
solicitations, you will be entering into multi-year, irrevocable agreements
that automatically renew and will require you to pay a significant amount
of money with no foreseeable benefits.
Further
information about how this scam works can be found on the SHOT
Show website.
Please
alert your staff and colleagues who are likely to be sent these deceptive
and misleading solicitations. The SHOT Show has no relationship with
the Fair Guide, Expo-Guide or any other trade-directory publishers, and
those publications are not authorized to use the "SHOT Show" name
and registered trademarks on information they send to show exhibitors
and attendees. Anyone who may have fallen prey to any of these trade-show
directory scams is encouraged to contact NSSF's legal department at 203-426-1320
or jyue@nssf.org.
